Notice of Public Hearing

In accordance with Education Code Section Education Code 42605, and as a condition of receiving funds for Tier III categorical programs, the Board of Education of the Sierra Sands Unified School District will conduct a public hearing at its regular meeting of May 17, 2012, scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Ridgecrest City Council Chambers, 100 West California Ave. The public hearing will be held for the purpose of taking testimony from the public, discussing the proposed receipt and use of the Tier III categorical funds, identifying closed programs, and approve or disapprove the proposed use of funding from the 39 programs identified in E.C. 42605.

Registration Begins March 5, 2012

Kindergarten Registration/Transitional Kindergarten Registration

There is a new law, the Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010, impacting the minimum age
for admittance to Kindergarten. Currently, a child shall be admitted to Kindergarten if
the child will have his or her 5th birthday on or before December 2. Beginning in fall
2012, a child shall be admitted to Kindergarten if the child will have his or her 5th
birthday on or before November 1, 2012.
If your child's 5th birthday falls from November 2 through December 2, 2012 you will not
be eligible to enroll in Kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year. However, your child
does qualify for our new Transitional Kindergarten program. (A two-year Kindergarten
program)

The highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States (Mount Whitney in the Sierra Nevadas and Badwater in Death Valley) are both within a comfortable driving distance.
