CREDENTIAL INFORMATION

Generally, a teacher entering California with a teaching credential from another state will be granted a five-year preliminary credential in his/her field. During the first year the teacher will be required to take and pass the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) if not done prior to entering California. The remaining requirements to be completed during the five-year period of the preliminary credential will be based on numerous factors such as the comparability of the state of the previous credential, the number of years of previous teaching experience, the amount of post-graduate classes previously taken, the completion of a Master's degree, etc. The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is the licensing agency for teachers in the state of California. For specific information on credentialing requirements see www.ctc.ca.gov or contact Jan Burke in our personnel office at (760)499-1622 or 113 Felspar, Ridgecrest, CA 93555
