SSUSD Launches Community Social Contract to Strengthen Civility, Respect, and Connection
At the February 19, 2026, meeting of the Sierra Sands Unified School District Board of Education, the Board officially adopted the SSUSD Community Social Contract, affirming a shared commitment to how we treat one another across our schools and community.
The Board approved Resolution #21‑2526, formally adopting the SSUSD Community Social Contract and inviting students, staff, families, and community members to join in this important endeavor. The SSUSD Community Social Contract reflects SSUSD’s belief that strong relationships, respectful communication, and thoughtful listening are essential to student success, staff well‑being, and a healthy community.

A Shared Commitment to How We Treat One Another
Developed collaboratively with input from staff and community members, the SSUSD Community Social Contract outlines shared expectations for respectful interaction, including:
Treating all individuals with dignity and respect
Listening without interruption and seeking to understand
Speaking respectfully—even when we disagree
Addressing concerns through appropriate and constructive channels

At its core, the SSUSD Community Social Contract represents a shared promise to ensure that every individual feels valued, safe, respected, and connected within our schools and throughout the broader community.
This work builds upon the District’s ongoing implementation of Capturing Kids’ Hearts, which emphasizes relationship‑building, trust, and respectful interactions modeled daily in classrooms, schools, district offices, and Board meetings.

Board members and community participants add their signatures to the SSUSD Community Social Contract banner, demonstrating collective ownership and accountability for fostering a positive, inclusive culture in SSUSD.

Leading by Example—Together
By adopting the SSUSD Community Social Contract, the SSUSD Board of Education reinforces the expectation that adults and students alike model respectful behavior and contribute to a culture of mutual respect and accountability. The resolution encourages all members of the SSUSD community to endorse and uphold the commitments outlined in the SSUSD Community Social Contract —at school sites, district events, Board meetings, and in all district‑related interactions, both in person and online.
The District will continue sharing the SSUSD Community Social Contract through its communication channels and integrating its principles into ongoing efforts to strengthen school climate, community engagement, and respectful dialogue.
Together, we affirm that civility, community, and connection are foundational to who we are—and who we aspire to be.
