Citizens' Oversight Committee (COC) for Bond Measure AA
Overview
The purpose of the Citizens' Oversight Committee (COC) shall be to inform the public concerning the expenditure of bond revenues. The COC shall actively review and report on the proper expenditure of taxpayers' money for school construction.
Proper expenditure means that expenditures are for construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, or replacement of school facilities, including the furnishing and equipping of school facilities, or the acquisition or lease of real property for school facilities, and conform to the list of specific school facilities projects to be funded and do not include any teacher or administrative salaries or other school operating expenses.
The SSUSD Board of Trustees have established the COC and its members have been appointed as required by law.
SSUSD Staff is authorized to continue to seek members to be appointed to the COC to fill any vacancies as they may occur.
In November 2024, the voters of Kern and San Bernardino Counties who reside in the Sierra Sands Unified School District voted to pass the School Infrastructure Improvement Bond, Measure AA. This Bond will provide needed repairs, modernization projects, and provide matching funding for Department of Defense grant funding.
In January 2025, the Board of Trustees declared the results of the school bond election and authorized the implementation of the Citizens' Oversight Committee.
