By-Trustee Area Election System
The Sierra Sands Unified School District has transitioned to a by-trustee area election system for the Sierra Sands Unified School District School Board elections.
The Kern County Elections Division has had the Notice of Election published on 7/17/2026. A copy of this notice is in both English and Spanish. A district-specific notice listing the offices up for election in the district is provided here.
The Kern County Registrar of Voters advises the following:
The nomination period is currently underway and ends August 7 at 5:00 pm. A calendar, a candidate checklist, a candidate handbook, forms, and additional information can be found by visiting November 3, 2026, General Election | Kern County, CA - Elections. It is highly recommended that incumbents and potential candidates visit the site, complete the forms, and follow the checklist prior to coming into our office. We experience a high volume of candidates during the last few days of the filing period. To avoid long wait times, we recommend candidates come into our office before then.

Initial public hearings were held on the following dates and times: October 30, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. and November 1, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
Additional Public hearings were held on the following dates and times:
November 16, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Ridgecrest City Council Chambers, 100 West California Avenue, Ridgecrest, CA 93555
November 17, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. and December 4, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sierra Sands Unified School District office, 113 W. Felspar Ave., Ridgecrest, CA 93555.
