Sierra Sands Unified School District is proud to recognize School Resource Officer Elizabeth Franco as the 2026 District Rose Award recipient, honoring her extraordinary courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to student safety.
On February 25, Officer Franco demonstrated exceptional bravery in response to a serious and immediate threat at Mesquite High School. Upon receiving information that a student was in possession of a loaded firearm, Officer Franco acted without hesitation. Relying on her training, instincts, and deep sense of duty, she swiftly located and detained the student—preventing the situation from escalating and ensuring the safety of students and staff on campus.
Her actions reflect the highest standards of school safety and law enforcement professionalism. In a moment of uncertainty, Officer Franco stepped forward with courage and decisive action, resolving a potentially dangerous situation with skill, calm, and care.
Because of her leadership and commitment, a tragic outcome was avoided. Her response stands as a powerful reminder of the critical role dedicated individuals play in protecting and supporting school communities.
